Claire Vionnet studied social sciences at the University of Lausanne (specialization in Anthropology). With a scholarship doc.ch of the Swiss National Science Foundation (2013- 2017), she wrote a PhD on the gesture in contemporary dance, combining Dance Studies, Anthropology and dance practice. She conducted fieldwork among professional dance companies in Switzerland, taking part in the production of dance plays. To expand her theoretical frame, she collaborated with the Institute of Dance and Theater studies in Bern (ITW, Prof. C. Thurner) and the Institute of Anthropology in Aberdeen (Project Knowing from the inside, Prof. T. Ingold). In 2018 she has been a Junior Fellow at the Walter Benjamin Kolleg (University of Bern), where she is still an associate Junior Fellow. Currently, she is a postdoc fellow at the University Concordia, Faculty of Fine Arts, Montreal.
She has also worked for/with the dance scene, as an outside eye in plays production, as a social researcher and as a meeting assistant. Her writing is on the Swiss dance scene (2015), working conditions of dance companies (2016), collaboration between Art and Anthropology (2016), reception of performances (2017) and affects (2018).
